Hi all. In our lounge we have a 3 gang light switch. One switch switches the ceiling light, 2nd switch switches a pair of wall lights, and the 3rd one switches a picture light mounted above the fireplace. Ironically, I may need to remove the picture light to make way for a large picture. So my question is how should that be done safely and within any applicable regs to leave us with a 2 gang switch controlling the ceiling and wall lights, with the picture light branch effectively safely terminated at both ends?

Thanks in advance for any information or advice.

A blanking plate over the safely terminated connections of the old light would be one way of doing it.
Sounds like the picture will hide it from view.

I’m assuming you can change the switch for a 2 gang

are you capable of disconnecting the cable from the system and cutting the cable in the wall off forever so it is permanently removed and done away with? if not as James mentioned a blanking plate over the cable with safe terminals connected to it maybe the way. this all depends on your ability, please reply to us so we can help further.

If you’re disconnected the cable... make sure the neutral is disconnected as well as the live.... depending on age of house, the neutral could be at the back of the switch... and this could be a very easy fix.

Thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated. I've been in touch with our electrician as we're going to have him swap out some sockets from singles to doubles for us also. He said he'll take care of the picture light if we need him to. I'll post back here on the method he chooses to use if/when he does it and let you all know. Thanks again.
