While fitting a Howden's oven on Friday,I came across the lead with a sticker attached that said "Do not fit plug" .The documentation said that it had to be fitted to a switched spur.
The oven is 2.3kw and the flex was 1.5mm.

Other than Howden's saying don't fit a plug,is there any regulation that forbids this?
2.3kw is well within the scope of a 13 amp plug and pulling the plug out gives full means of isolation so i cannot see why they have stated this.
Views on this anyone?

Which I presume is why most white goods portable appliances come with moulded plug top already fitted, or should that be plug.

Probably because most plugtops are manufactured so poorly that they wouldn't stand up to a current of 10A for very long. I fitted a howdens oven a few weeks back and noticed the label "do not fit plug top" just as I was fitting a plug top to it :D
The trouble is most Fused Spurs are even worse, have lost count of the number of faulty ones I've come across...give them any sort of load for any length of time and it seems to burn them out at the fuse contacts

"Do not fit plug tops"?
Oh great. Back to the days of 2 matchsticks pushed into a socket, holding in the bare wires.
Remember the old public safety advert with the drill?
Maybe this is what we're supposed to do ? Just kidding folks :)

He needs to turn the socket on for it to work, and that earth could do with being wrapped around the screw driver

I have lost count of the amount of burnt out sockets I have come across with an oven or fan heater perminatly plug in but generally in comercial environments, probably due to cheep sockets and plug tops , as for why your oven can not have a plug top on I would guess its due to cheep sockets over heating.
