Doubtless I've done those small jobs (in my home) over the years that'd make a professional spark see red but always try to be astute in completing small electrical jobs. I need to look towards getting an EICR for peace of mind & now wonder if some of my small additions etc 'd be a fail.
1. I've run (1mm) lighting cables mostly along top of a picture rail, see photo. Is this ok, & any problem for EICR assuming they test ok?
2. Altering lighting in a bedroom I've retained use of the old single-wire neutrals lying in the attic, probably 45 yrs old, & less chasing. Would this be criticised upon inspection?

If your thinking of having an EICR done, and have considered the cost, then just go ahead with it. It’s not like an car mot, which if it fails, can’t be driven on the road.

The EICR should tell what needs replacing, altered etc. Point out things you’ve noticed, and things you’ve done over the years.

Then you could employ an electrician or contractor to make your electrical installation safe and up to date.
