Aye well, you can certainly pick the places.
You wont be able to understand a word they speak in those you mentioned.

Seriously, loads of work in Aberdeen being advertised recently.

Merry Christmas mate.

Don't get me started…….too late………..

And they are all going to be electricians or plumbers, and they'll work from 6am to 9pm without a break SEVEN days a week, for a bowl of stewed cabbage. And they won't care about our regulations regarding notification of certain works or the need to be conversant with BS7671 and the requirements for certification on EVERY job.
So competition will be hot.

Are you sure you want to come here?
Can I go over to INZID, please?>

What area of electrical are you working in at the moment?...domestic? industrial?...

You'll definitely need to get up to date with our regulations over here and take the course...

Yep, 5 weeks or 17 days, whatever suits you.

Boydy
yes...and dont forget to mention how all training is undertaken in a safe controlled cubicle....sorry i meant environment....and is delivered in small, bite sized pieces that makes it easy to understand....

looking for domestic/commercial work. so ive got the 5 week course then I can work as an electrician? sounds good to me. yeah the price of rent is to much in London, so looking elsewhere....Sheffield?

no...you damn well cant...

well, not in my world anyway...

its 3 years at college

then its the C&G 2382....together with other stuff...such as inspection & testing courses and any other things that you may wish to undertake ...

i hate these fast track chuffin 5 week courses chuffin 17 day courses n stuff ....

i`d have em all banned/shut down i would....your not bloody competant after 5 weeks...then your let loose to carry on in other folk`s properties....

its a con...

?? im abit confused, im a fully qualified electrician here in new Zealand with all my tckets. So when I come to the uk ive got to do a 5 week course and sit the wiring rules exam? then I can work as a sparky?

no...you wont have to do one of these 5 week courses.....

you would have to do the C&G 2382...which is currently the 17th edition (1st)....this is a course used to demonstrate your ability to get about BS7671...which is the requirements for electrical installations and is the guidance note we work to in the UK...

its 50 questions..open book....

The 17th edition (our regs)is just a 4 day course, could be well worth ordering a copy of that and the on site guide that accompanies it. The exam is taken online in a exam center and open book so pretty straight forward to pass if you have the knowledge of it.

Also look at doing the 2394 and 2395 the inspection and testing exams too, may be worth either contacting some employers local to where you are looking at living or even ask on here if people will look at your quals to find out what they would employ you as.

ok its sounds like our electrical regulation exam, 3 hour and open book. thanks guys that's all I need to know : )

A lot more than just that, but if you are experienced enough then that should help if you manage to get a job here. All of which can be done once you are here.

The 5 week thing was just a side swipe at some others, a sort of joke amongst ourselves and I dont think relevant to you if you are qualified in your own location.

plus one on Glenns comment above

ok cool, ill bring my practising licence with me when I come over. does It help that im a kiwi? don't us new Zealanders have a good name in England?

Oh you do, but dont forget you will be competing for jobs with recognized qualifications over here who have been working for a long time to our regs.

Believe the us when we say the grass isnt always greener, there is a flood of EU nationals who are doing the work for a lot less than market value right now and that number will only get bigger.

Welcome to the party,Hitman. At the risk of offending you with a localism, your leaving St.Tropez and arriving in Rhyl.....A good few of me pals have done the deal the other way round, and NONE of them are pining for home...If your competent,tenacious,patient,thick-skinned and have sense of humour, then, you'll manage at any of those salubrious addresses listed. Good luck

Eh, Hong Kong work's to UK standards ...or used too!!

If anything hitman is over qualified, certainly no electrical trainee's in the land of the KIWI. lol!!

trust me. coming here from NZ is like getting out of a shower and bathing in the karzi.

hitman get in touch with a company called 'down under tradies' in London. Costs about £450 and you just have to sit a kind of regs exam and a health and safety exam and you'll be issued your 17th edition cert and a JIB gold gold and you're good to go. It's a lot easier for us to start working in the UK as we do proper apprenticeships not like the 5 week pom methods ;-) might want to also gain the 2391 (which now is called the 2394 & 2395 I think) which is related to testing and inspecting. You can get by without it but a lot of jobs would prefer if you had it

And it separates the men from the boys. ( or at least the 2391 did)

Aberdeen could be a "fun" experience, nice folk, "interesting dialect", flipping colder than invercargill and a heck of a lot more snow...albeit more culture and better bars I'm told.
Also plenty of ski slopes etc close by aberdeen as well as plenty of places to go "tramping" if thats your thing.

Liverpool....fit locking wheel nuts to every stud on the van and hire a translator.....Aberdonians have nothing on Scousers for being incomprehensible.....

and be sure to buy a return ticket. it's cheaper than 2 singles. after a month here, i'm sure you'll be queueing to get back to NZ.

A month...after a fortnight of paying uk petrol prices...I'd be off again....

Then again paying $80-$120 to see the doc kinda cancels that out.....

Aye but if you are paying him he might show an interest and actually listen!

alot of good info on www.downundertradies.com thanks guys. it says something on there about being self-employed? is that how it works over there? most sparkys in new Zealand work for a company which supplies them with a van/most tools and do all the tax/paper work for them.
