Looking for reliable Electricians/Generator technicians for a busy summer of Events. Events are all round the UK but we are based in the South East. Please email [email protected] for more details
Hang on we have Domestic, Commercial, Industrial Electricians and now we have event electricians, I did all this carp whilst I was an Apprentice, what's happened to the Electrician???????????????????????/

Tempory power for events can be quite a specialist thing, and outside of the experience and knowledge of a lot of electricians who are used to working on permenamt instalations. A good knowledge of BS7909 is needed as well as that of generators and integrating temporary and permenamt supplies
There are plenty of event electricians who also work/have worked in other areas, but I dont think you could walk in straight from a building site without gaining some of this knowledge first. Its no diferent to specialising in industrial or machinery control or anything else.

Whilst the physics is the same, there are challenges and considerations within events and temporary power that you are unlikely to encounter within permanent installations.
For an electrician that never does events, he/she does not need to even know what BS7909 is, likewise a theatre/event electrician doesn't need to know Part P, scheme membership, etc.
I've seen many a temporary installation done badly by a domestic electrician, with disregard for IP, incorrect cable & connectors, etc.
Likewise many a theatre/temp power technician would make an equally bad job of domestic.

Events or theatre electricians have been around since electric lighting first came in to theatres, it's hardly a new job description and they certainly existed before you started your apprenticeship. Most theatres have a chief, deputy chief and chargehand electrician on the staff.

For some reason I had a vision of Pete climbing 200 foot on a rope ladder to check the lights in a rig above the main stage at Glastonbury......... ;o))))))
Pete's done most things in his career but I don't think he has gone to those hights to change a light bulb (sorry lamp for the PC brigade)
