Hi,
I have a mft 1720, the equipment itself is brilliant but every so often when I test earth loop impedance the rcd trips before it gets a zs value. On the same system I tried a older mft and got a zs reading straight away. Any suggestions

I have one too and have had it happen .

Tbh I think it only happens when I make a bad connection with the leads ( when i dont have enough thumbs) or when the terminals I'm probing onto have a bit of lacquer on.

I have not had an instance where I could definitely put the blame on the meter.

I would say that the tester is trying to use a higher current to test and is running the test for longer to eliminate errors due to voltage shifts during measurement and therefore, if there is even a bit of leakage on the existing installation this may push the RCD into tripping.
