Evening guys, who would I need to contact to come out and connect new tails to the DNO 's meter in the Neath valley.

Is it western power?

How much notice do they need?

Does it cost anything?

Cheers

The tails will never be double insulated, none are, they are at best insulated and sheathed.
They may have sufficient insulation to be acceptable even if they are old.
How are you securing safe isolation and complying with statute law if you are rewiring the property and removing an RCD from between the head & meter?
What CU are you fitting, metal clad or plastic?

Ok wrong terminology about the double insulation.
Pulling the DNO fuse for safe isolation.
still need to get rid of very dated rccb, and just wanted for the new install to look neat, ( new tails ) not getting boxed in.
Plastic cu

Yes mate: I know where they come from, but around this area & the Area he's working in if the DNO service head seal is cut then more often than not so is the Meter seal.

Just put a call in to Western Power Distribution & they'll tell you all you need to know. Rang them to do a Commercial Metering job just before Christmas & the Engineer was there 2 hours later. Don't know if they're that quick for Domestic though.

Thanks mate, do you know if they charge?

They did'nt charge for the Commercial, so would'nt have thought they did for Domestic. If they do charge though it normally goes on the punters next bill.

The quoted price of £ 46 would be enough for me to abstain :rolleyes4:

Thanks Des, but don't quite understand how they decide which jobs they're going to charge for & which they're not. They reckon 5 Days but for the 1 I was on they were there in 2 Hours flat & did'nt charge the guy anything for it.

I'm not going to enter into any debate or discussion, any of you can say what you like, but to cut the DNO fuse seals and remove, without their express permission is a criminal offence, you do know that don't you?
Well you should if you went to NPTC, SwanColl, or any of the other local colleges in the last 20 years.

Not sure exactly where this is coming from Paul to be honest. Unless i've missed something, there's been no mention of anyone cutting any seals. And for my part then yes I am well aware it's an offence, we used to contract to Western Power.

Neither do I understand the necessity of this post on this thread
Please note that comments can sometimes be made that are intended as light humour

I suspect the illegal cutting of seals discussions have had their fair share of threads by this time

You're allowed to pull it for emergency isolation though aren't you?

I've heard that consumer units often get physically damaged and have to be replaced straight away... :innocent:

Consumer units often get Physically Damaged ? OK i must have missed something, don't think i've changed 1 in the last 5 / 6 years thats been Physically Damaged. Unless breaking when I chuck them on the floor counts.
