Good morning everyone, it has been a long time since I have asked for advice on here but I find myself at your mercy again.

I have been asked by a long term client to provide the power supply for some electric gates on his domestic dwelling in West Byfleet. The information he has provided me let's me calculate that I need a 1.5mm supply though i will put in 2.5mm for belts and braces which will be SWA and ducted to the mouth of the driveway. The gate suppliers are installing the gates and all associated accessories.
Having never done this and not having MI's to refer to my question is should I be providing local isolation by terminating my SWA into a rotary isolator? My instincts say yes and I need to get this quote and method statement in today and the gate company is closed.

Thanks for any advice!
Ryan

We usually have a metal enclosure close to the gates, terminate SWA into box and into fused spur, control panel and anything else that's being installed ie access control can be powered from here, the gates etc won't draw anywhere near 13amps. Do you know if the gate is sliding or swing?

If I was just supplying power for someone else I would more than likely just leave the SWA at the gate and the gate installers would fit spurs etc, just leave the cable unterminated at the board, and either yourself or the gate installers can terminate it when it comes to powering up.

They are swing gates going in. All trades will be starting on the same day and working alongside each other so all issues can be rectified at the start. I will price to allow for an FCU and then my bases are covered. The supply will only be powering the gates and the flashing lights and also the induction loop

I would use a lockable weatherproof s/f spur. Lockable so no one who isn't meant to can fiddle with the supply the gates, but still accessible for service isolation.

The enclosure will be weather proof anyway, and lockable if required, a standard spur would be fine inside the enclosure. Be lucky if the whole install drew 5-10 amps.
