We are an NICEIC approved contractor, but we dont do domestic work generally, we do industrial predominantly with the odd office here and there.

Anyway, I'm the QS for our firm (17th ed, 2391 cert etc) and have converted my loft into a bedroom, new stairwell all finished. Its all been above board (planning permission etc and the only thing left to sign off the build is Part P...

As you can appreciate, I havent had any involvement with Part P before so just wondered as this is a one-off what is the easiest way of notifying? through NICEIC or direct to the council / building inspector?

Niceic hands down...Surprised you don't know more about this being a QS.

thanks mate. Yeah but as I say we never have, nor intend to, get involved with domestic installs, so as its a one off...

But fair enough thanks mate.

If you have had planning permission, then you have no need to notify the electrical installation seperately. You have paid your full plans fees and this covers it.
All you need to do is to Issue yourself the EIC for the work, and pass it on to the building inspector.

Part P self cert, is only needed for jobs which fall under its scope, and don not involve planning applications. Such things as kitchen refits, outdoor stuff etc etc.

Cheers.........Howard

Thanks v much. Yeah having never notified before, just went on the link off NICEIC website, and BRCS website was very straight forward. Thanks chaps.
