Hi members,
I have a city and guilds 2330 level three but have been asked to do some pat testing. Will I be covered to do so with the 2330?

Thanks in advance

You don't need to have a qualification to do pat testing, you just need to be competent. Or just do what most companies do and stick green stickers on everything without even checking it.

or join the Trained Willing Association of Testers and put T.W.A.T. after your name.

It covers installation testing so once it's explained to you PAT testing will make sense, but the 2330 doesn't actually cover it.

You certainly need a tester and as far a qualifications go, the Health & Safety Executive states that the person carrying out PAT testing needs to be "a sensible and competent person with enough knowledge and training"

You do not need C&G qualifications to prove your status as a PAT tester, unless whoever you are working for stipulates this.

The PAT C&G qualification is nothing more than a money spinning course for the C&G institute, pure and simple. Necessary maybe for Electrical Trainee's and non electrical company staff and the like, but definitely not for a fully qualified electrician!!

Giving this 3 day course an electrical level 3 designation, is just about as ludicrous as you can get in my opinion!! No wonder the training centres always add this short course, to their so-called DI courses, it gives the these Wannabes a further impression of being qualified!! lol!!

So are am i right in thinking all you need to do pat testing is a tester and not a qaulification ???

It's the C&G 2377 you need, but it's a waste of time.

Not many electricians have this qualification, you only need that if you're going to be employed by a proper PAT testing company, just proves competence in pat testing but ruins a full day, on a pointless course that basically teaches you to suck eggs.

You don't actually need a qualification to PAT Test, just experience - but some clients prefer to see some sort of qualification. ref:C&G2377.

well....in theory yes...
but just a roll of pass labels & convenient hiding place usually cuts it...
works for others...

What's changed glenn...i seem to remember from a few months ago you were telling me how benefitial / exciting the C&G2377 course was.

I seem to remember you saying "It wasn't a waste of time at all, and i learnt so much from an amazing lecturer."
