hi guys just after a bit of help with which relay i need i know what i want it to do but might struggle explaning it lol. basicly i want it to work like a two way switch. i want push a button which will switch it to load 1. then when i push the same button i want it to switch it to load 2. i dont want the coil energized all the time i just want the coil to get a pulse and switch. would this be a ratchet relay any help would be great.

thanks

my work want a roller shutter door on a remote so load 1 will pull in up contactor and and Load 2 will pull in down contactor. Now the remote only has one button to use which operates a relay with n/o contact. I was thinking put another relay in so the relay that is operated by remote will operate another relay to switch direction each time. Fork lift guys to lazy to get off the truck lol

Please the link to the product was only a guide to the device you described.

Please do not be offended if you are not sure ask the door manufacture if a modification of this can be done and if so can they supply suitable diagrams and part.

H&S is of utmost importance cover yourself

Do you want an off position as well or just switching between the two outputs? (With the off position it would go load1-->off-->load2-->off-->load1-->off....... and so on. )

Call me a skeptic, but surely the roller door manufacturer could supply a bespoke unit for you , probably have the on the shelf ready to go, worth a try save you a load of hassle.

Agree as the is the issue of safety edges etc to be taken into account by switching it this way in case something or someone is goesunderneath it when moving.

But again it's worth contacting the supplier/maker of the door, with H&S in the ascendance as it is, all your fears could possibly be answered in a phone call, or a visit from their engineering dept

A lot of modern shutters can be made to go up all the way off one pulse from a momentary acting switch, coming down is another matter however, they usually operate on a deadman principal,is switch must be held in to close the door, this is to prevent accidents involving a closing door,eg person getting trapped.creating a situation where a door closes in the manner you describe could have major h&s implications if correct safety devices are not fitted.

These are old roller shutter doors its basically a fwd and reverse starter which is already working in one touch. So at the minute you can push down and it could still come done on some thing if you walk away. All I was asked to do was could make it possible to make on remote save the truck guys getting off and on. I do see you point though

Pulsed changeover relays are easily available... scatts Rs etc ...utilising it as others have mentioned to open and close a shutter is a different matter altogether you need a control system that will be risk assessed and fail safe so under normal use and in fault there's no risk of injury or death.

just be aware that while these shutters may be old and not comply with the regs that new ones do,any modification would have to comply with current safety regs, failure to do this could leave you open to prosecution in the event of an accident.

Cheers guys. I have been looking at some door controls which will give me the operation im after but it also includes a light beam and I can add my recivever in to it. Just gotta get some prices s and see if they would be willing to do it.

You really need to do some homework, so what stops the roller door motor in the UP or down travel?? I'll tell you, either actuation arm limit switches or proximity switches, these and other safety measures are an absolute must on any roller door installation. As has been suggested, the roller door manufacturer can supply the right motorised door conversion that will cover the basic requirements along with any options that you may need, (eg remote up/down operation)!!
