Just been to a customer's who has just had LVT type flooring installed on top of under floor heating.
Unfortunately now whenever its turned on, it trips the RCD. So seems the floor fitters have damaged an element.

Its in 2 sections, one reads 50ohm, the other is open circuit. So defiantly damaged.
Have just disconnected the damaged section, and the other section works fine.

Unfortunately i also know the floor fitter quite well, so wan't to see if it can be repaired rather than replacing.
They will lift the flooring on the damaged side tomorrow to find the damage.
Plus i don't really have the time to replace it all, while i can do a repair in an evening.

However can the foil type be repaired in the same way and the normal type. ie peel back the foil, cut out the damage, then use a kit like this:

Does anyone have any experiance with repairing the foil type of under floor heating?

cheers

the element is basicallylike coax.aslong as you can joint the centre cores to each other (L), and the foil to the foil (E) and keep isulated from each other, should be a plan.

Yea that was my thinking, is there even any need for the repair kit, could i just cut out the damage, then solder a small link wire (of suitable wire), then heat-shrink?

I would imagine, its only an inch or so that will need to be cut out.

This is the type of UFH:
