Hi guys, I've been an electrical mate for for about 2.5 years covering domestic, industrial and commercial and I'm also in college doing my level 2 2330 (2nd year)

theres a bit of a grey area as when your actually qualified as a 'domestic installer'.

basically I want to get on the books with a firm obviously as soon as I can. I personally hate subbing out to Industrial firms on a self employed basis as a mate.

So, would having my 2330 level 2 and 17th edition and over 3 years of experience (by summer 2015 when I pass 2330 level2) be enough to apply for Electrician jobs with firms who are house bashing? I am 100% moving onto the 2330 level 3 (or it could be 2365 by then) but are employers actually looking for this? I personally think these firms are looking for people who have enough experience and have the 17th edition.

please she'd some light on this for me.

p.s I do intend to go all the way right up to JIB status, I'm just looking for the nearest point I can apply for an 'Electricians' job

cheers

i have the same problem, i have 2330 level 2 & 3 . 2382,2392 , i even have 2394/2395 . but i can only get paid for the grade on my jib card, labourer, experience is golden and proof is NVQ2356 and gets you jib gold card and £15 an hour

Hi mate,

In an ideal world we would all be employed but unfortunately it's not like that anymore. No employers are setting on and all the work is either sub direct or through the agencies.

It all depends on the type of firm because some may take you on but majority would only pay you Electrician rate if you are JIB graded as one. They key is to do your NVQ after the 2330 and get a JIB Gold Card.

once you start your 2330 lvl 3. say 3 months in on the course then get the nvq3 started, as long as you have the different types of work to cover the nvq 3 you should be ok, just see who do the nvq 3 and get the cheapest one out there, I have my jib gold card and ive been looking in to the engineering course
