I've just put a 12v spotlight in at my uncles house to replace the pendent hehad there. I used a 73mm hole cutter and got a nice neat cut. However the people who installed the pendent many years ago made their hole in the ceiling by just whacking a screwdriver or something through. Basially the two holes over lap to a small degree. Long story short, it's old plasterboard that has string in it that is around my spot light. Has anyone had anything like this?

Dont understand your point, or what it is you are trying to find out. Yes the type of plasterboard you describe is quite common.

Cheers..........Howard
