Trainee Electrician
Hi Im sure this has been asked a thousand times.
I'm 45 and live in n.irleand and am want to start my late journey into becoming an electrician,
i left school to become a mechanic for 15years then i trained to become a driving instructor which i enjoyed until covid hit
then i was lucky enough to find a job as a manager in a retail store.
The job isn't bad but it is mind numbing at best.
I enjoy manual work that makes me think constantly and enjoy doing electrical jobs when i can.
My problem is where do i start with my training while keeping my job for know.
I live i n.ireland so finding courses doesn't seem straight forward, any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
Thankyou in advance

The options here are few. SERC will take adult apprentices, but that would require that you start working in the industry.

If you could find a college offering evening classes, you might be able to start studying that way while continuing in your current line of work, but qualifying requires completion of NVQ, which in turn requires a portfolio evidencing work undertaken, and finally a trade test.

There are other options, but they'll involve lots of money and most likely will take longer to get out the other side.
