Hi guys/gals,
looking for some clarity/advice re installing "standard" underfloor heating into bathrooms/kitchens, either as mats or loose cable, which are then tiled over. Someone recently drew my attention to 753.411.3.2 which talks about the need for a metallic grid to be laid over the cable " where the heating units are provided without exposed conductive parts".

Can anyone clarify when and/or if installations would require such treatment? I'm not sure I understand what the Regs are describing here:sad3:.

Thanks.

try this site. afaik, the cable kis have an exposed conductive part. i.e. an earthed sheath. so you need not consider the metallic grid.

TPP480 - 480w covers 2.9-3.7m2

I've only fitted the 'Warmup' brand UFH, there is no need for any grid with that, as it is earth shielded along its length.
I'd pretty much be certain that all similar consumer targetted UFH is also shielded, so no need for any metallic grid.
Alan.

Thanks guys. I though that was probably the case, but I had one of these "Oh no!" moments when it was first mentioned.

Cheers

I fitted a very similar mat recently in a bathroom, and phoned them with the same question. Asnwer was basically that this metallic grid is a foil covering along the length of the cable. Just make sure it's connected to your cpc. Job done.
