Next week I intend to run ads in all my local papers right across my local area.

Just looking to nick a few a bit and pieces from the domestic sparks, if there's any work in my area (Herts and Essex)

I Need something to do and the odd pennies will come in handy until a longish contract starts in a few weeks.

Don't matter how qualified and how experienced I am, its what money people want to spend.

I'm thinking on the lines of £20 for the initial first hour of turning up, then maybe £15 an hour onwards.

Or should I go £20 then £10 onwards, bear in mind agencies don't want to pay that great money at the moment.

I know a lot about law, because Ive studied with the Open University, and I hope your not trying start a libellous thread on me.

It's not libellous if it's true. After re-reading this thread it does seem that that is exactly what you are planning to do. Malcolm is spot on with this, you either notify retrospectively through a scheme, or you need to see the letter from the council before you can work. The customer is not allowed to choose whether or not they wat to notify the same as I'm not allowed to drive around without insurance. Sure, I think insurance is a rip off, and I think I'm a pretty good driver. If I never have an accident then there's no victim, but if I do, we have problems.

The main issue I have with this is that from what you've said, you seem to imply you'll tell the customer they can notify but it's a bit pointless (otherwise you'd never get any work, telling them they have to spend £200 extra by law). If you 'know a bit about law' you'll know full well that the customer, unlikely to have trawled their local building control's website, is the one who will get in trouble at the end of the day, and that will be down to your misinformation.

Working in part-p defined areas and not notifying? Expect to get reported by honest hard working sparks who are doing work in domestic properties correctly! carry on likeyou say you are going to then we will see you on BBC rogue traders!!

Look folks, this thread was dead and and buried a long while a go, it was a debate, nothing more nothing less, please don't take it all to heart.

Quite the contary if anything is dead, it is your reputation.

You have come onto an open forum and declared that you were quite willing to work illigally and then accuse someone that they were libelling you for telling you that you could not do that.

I stand by my convictions in that the industry would be a better place without people who openly inform others they intend to work illigally and place the onus of that legality on un suspecting customers.

I see that you have now managed to secure legal employment I wish your future employers the very best of luck in obtaining your services, I'm sure they will need all the luck they can get.

My reputation is well regarded and endorsed in this industry by the JIB Approved Gold Card :D Covers all angles from being competent to working safe :)

Now draw a line under your issues with me, don't let it get personal.

PS. I knew your question was coming, because people can't help but worry and try to police others, I laid the bait and you took it.

When are you going to stop hiding behind this Gold JIB approved card it means absolutely nothing if you were willing to work illigally. I'm sure the JIB would be highly impressed with an approved member advocating illigal work.

It's better than watching tv is this!

Jokes aside, Tony are you going to do notifiable work without informing the labc? We all know what we think about the part p etc but laws are laws and if we, the qualified professional electricians blatantly stick two fingers up at it aren't we just as bad as all those Dave's down the pub? You are a jib gold card holder and I'm sure you are a good electrician but saying the things you have said makes us all look like cowboys after a quick buck. Quality of your work is not at question but what you do regards to notifying it is.

One thing you can say with certainty is that part p has aroused a lot of passionate feelings and attitudes amongst sparks
This thread demonstrates that passion :)

I do believe that qualified sparks will have a less law abiding attitude to the legistlation. the longer the likes of the Niceic continue with the blinkered untrue summaries and presentations they are giving to government about its application, as demonstrated in the link in the other thread by IQ http://niceic.com/Uploads/File4079.pdf

Some of us have less will to resist bad laws and take what is given without too much opposition, others like Tony may not have that same attitude
He may very well be wrong, but the motive for that wrongdoing is understandable with part p in its present form

Whilst not condoning that attitude because every spark who works under the radar is able to have less cost to the job than myself,it cant be denied that if enough did take that attitude, part p would be where many would like to see it,in the bin where it most definetly belongs

The law is an ---.......... Charles Dickens Oliver Twist.

I for one am in total agreement with that when it is regarding Part P and the legislation behind it. But so are many laws in many peoples eyes also an ---, but without laws where would our society be.

Like it or hate it Part P is the law, how we change it, is open to all forms of debate and speculation but until it is changed then that is what we need to abide by. As it got teeth of course not, does it make electrical work safer of course not, will it stop people breaking it very doubtful, Is it the right law absolutely not. Like it or hate it, as an electrician working in the domestic sector we must abide by it.
