Have you noticed how many new members are joining up? I am all for new members but i just did a count up and there were 31 newbies on the 1st page! Last night someone posted a thread and i posted back "hi and welcome", when it was an old member posting! I had gone on automatic pilot!

Still hopefully we will get some interesting topics off them soon.

Newly 'qualified' or just starting courses maybe? Perhaps the word has spread that this is the place to be? Whatever the reason you can't beat some new blood (or fresh meat depending on your point of view!).

People join and then don't post anything ever.
Every so often Dan sends an email to all these lurkers telling them to contribute to the forum or do one, so we suddenly get them all coming out of the woodwork.

It's not that a load of new members have joined on one day, it's just that a load of members have made themselves known.

The last time it happened some of them got a bit shirty because they didn't feel the need to 'ask a question' which isn't really the point of the forum IMO.

Yep but have you also noticed that some of them who have qualified 30 years ago are trying to get back into the trade ie get their 17th and doing small electrical jobs because they have done their 30 years with BT,police,Fire brigade.
I do work for a letting agent but in the last 2 months the jobs have fallen of a cliff ie this time last year i had completed 20 jobs today I completed 7 I also know a guy who went off sick and asked me to stand in for his letting agent but the guy running it was hostile to the point of being rude because I was slightly dearer but as I explained and me thinks this is why the new members these guy are trying to get into this and of course because they are pensioned up then they are doing the work for beer money thats great for the agent but I am watching this because if my work increases during Christmas/ holiday periods then I will know what is going on

I don't mind people coming back into the industry but working for beer money helps no one!

An email got sent to members with less than 20 posts encouraging them to post more and then they may be able to get access to the restricted areas of the forum.

Please discuss but don't shoot the messenger. Me or Dan.

I have been a member a while but never joined the arms as have not been doing this for very long and like to know iam on good ground when i make a post

Given loads seem to appear in regular "waves" I suspect training centres "point" their students in this direction!

Maybe the quick courses are getting even quicker

Start at 9, dinner at 1, tea and smokes at 3, and out by 5 with the web address for further study ( If its not all sunk in at the first attempt that is)

Forgot the comprehensive Three phase session, that was 4 till 5
:sifone:

The thing is it is a free world and ok they may be pensioned up so they can cut their cost and I have experienced this because I was a bit dear but on this forum I feel abit cheap but if i do get a call during Easter or Christmas then i will be telling them it will be Christmas rates.
I know a guy who does it and he thinks he is doing great but in a sense it is beer money because take away the pension and he would starve

Very proud of my 12" Thorntons !
Always remember at Tech College, you had to write "Using slide rule" on the top of any exam paper.

I sent an email to people who have never posted asking if there is anything I can help with, and explaining how to post, as I keep getting emails asking me how to post a thread and it's doing my head in, so it sort of answers them all in one go.

Then while I was at it, I sent an email to all those who are entitled to be in the Electricians Arms telling them how to gain access if they're an electrician. So we've had (and I'm still yet to process many) loads added to the Arms too.

And then I sent an email to you all to tell you that we've hit half a million posts.

So we'll probably see a bit of an influx for the next week or so.

I like clearing out unused accounts on all the forums so the statistics are accurate. Does my head in when I see forums with 500,000 members and 20 threads. Automated spam accounts are often the reason for that so we're quite strict with the spam here as I'm sure you all know.

I don't mind if people register and not post, I've had many reply to the email saying don't erase the account as they're still reading a lot, and when they have had a question to ask, they've searched and already found it asked and answered. So maybe one day those people will think of something to ask but in the meantime they're fine just reading.

Just looked at stats and 74 members online with 596 visitors ? (weekend sparkies me thinks)

Still got my slide rule with all the formulas scratched onto the back of it! Haven't used any of those formulas for 40 years!
cheapskate. i bought one with the formulae engraved by the manufacturer. still use it, even if only for simple calculations. like the cube root of pi, etc.

You should see the stats at peak, what you've quoted is quite low to be honest. We've had 2,277 users online at the same time, February just gone, a record that is.

Keep up the good work lads and keep posting lots of new threads! That keeps the new visitors coming, and the existing ones coming back!
