Discuss Your thoughts on bonding this gas pipe in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Would you also make a Connection to the DNO cable before the cutout or Meter?

Your missing my point or maybe I didn't say it right, what I am saying is as an electrician if that was MY house and there was the chance that with a socket so close there could be a difference in potential then yes I would absolutely bond it if my test proved that it needed bonding. I am not talking about tampering with gas supplies am I, I am talking about attaching a clamp to the exterior pipe! Where is the problem.

What's the relevance here, to main bonding an extraneous gas pipe??

But yes, if the incoming cable was a PILC, and the Ze proved suitable by testing, i'd have no problem taking a main earth connection from that cable with a suitable clamp. I wouldn't however make a DIY N-E PME connection....

Thank you Eng, it was a flippant comment about the cutout, and totally irrelevant to bonding.

Popping out for half an hour to find an headless gas pipe to bond, and get our lass a birthday card brb

If there's no Gas meter, You cannot bound to something that's not there.
The gas main is outside the property. So just leave a 10:00mm CPC there for future connection.

Are you for real?? So it doesn't matter to your mind, that the pipe entering the property is extraneous, just that it doesn't have a meter attached to it!! ....Jesus!!

Oh and it WILL be extraneous, on that i'd put money on!! lol!!

I am requoting myself for the benefit of those who only want to read what they want too.

Where abouts is the supply side if a structural steel, ducting etc, all of them could well have to be bonded too if needed.

is the gas pipe inside the building or outside? if the latter, it could be argued that it is not extraneous as it does not introduce a potential inside the structure.

FFS. For those who seem to have trouble reading English -

544.1.2 states:

The MEB connection to any gas, ... service shall be made as near as practicable to the point of entry...

Where there is ... a meter ... etc.

There isn't a ******* meter so point of entry.

How simple is it?

dont waste your time eng mate...

it aint getting through....lol..

I thought trying to win an argument with our lass was hard work but ffs
