Discuss 19.4kw cooker......... in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

They'll have a "must be installed by a competent electrician to relevant regs" or something to that effect in there as well to cover themselves. Just find it daft they have stated cable size

I agree .............. but when did you last see any manufacturers instructions that gave out decent constructive advice?

FWIW I installed 10mm, even though it wasn't passing through any insulation!

If it is going in a domestic kitchen, with diversity applied a 40A supply should be fine. If my calculations are correct.

Some years back a mate called after Christmas to say his oven had tripped several times severely disrupting the prep of Xmas dinner. It had been installed following extensive refurbishment by the builders sparks on a 40a mcb and if I recall was a similar rating and model to this one. Since upping the mcb to 50a there have been no further oven related Christmas dramas, OP take note.

Just wondering what size cable been installed to change the ocpd to 50amp, bearing in mind the usual installation method in a domestic property?

but not unusual in most kitchens. :). maybe more common just to be thrown along the floor under the units.

Think I was trying to say (was tired & emotional last night :)), most installs are in the ceiling void or in wall etc. Never seen a 16mm tw&e installed for a domestic kitchen cooker?

Fact that it is 85a rating will at least need to be 16mm2 cable but would probably go with 25mm in case any future increases. Also will need to check your main switch as you may need to upgrade your distribution board as your house would potentially be running about 140 to 160a if everything running at full capacity so if using standard 100 or 125a single phase breaker as main switch will cause it to blow a lot when cooker being used

I assume you have taken the 85a rating from the OP link which states a fuse size of 85a!
Clearly this is not to be taken seriously.
