Today I was glanding off some SWA.... simple enough you may think.

It was towards the end of the day and I was tired. Made sure I put the shroud on first, dont intend to make that silly mistake! I'd left quite a bit of spare cable so i cut it to size and made a very nice job of getting it all glanded nicely, nice clean cut through the wire (sticky tape to ensure all bits of wire the same length) etc etc, nicely earthed etc etc..... went to put the shroud on and couldn't find it! Ridiculous as I remembered putting it on. Then I found the bit of cable I had cut off and it had a nice shroud on it!!

Re-did it all...... even more tired....... still a good job....... went to screw up the bottom part of gland (the part that has the rubber seal (CW)).... and realised it was underneath the shroud. Couldn't believe it!!

Re-did it all..... even more tired........ still a good job........ tried to tighen up the nut around the armour wire and it just wouldn't reach. It had been fine both times before, it just didn't make sense! checked all the wire strands... none overlapping, none underneath the gland. I just stared at it thinking this is impossible, it has to screw up!!

Eventually (30mins later) realised that the small, removable ring inside the gland is slightly thicker one end than the other, turned it around, glanded up, smiled, went home...... very tired!

I'm happy to take any form of abuse as I deserve it, just thought the forum could do with a bit of cheering up at the moment :smiley2:

I think we all terminated the off-cut by mistake at some point ... not a cheery event at the time but good to look back and chuckle ....been a few occasions ive chopped the spare core off to realise before it hits the floor ive cut the wrong one and i just look at it thinking why! why! did i just do that!

Much easier to cut into the swa using a junior hacksaw with the outer sheath still on. No need for tape then.

Myself and my guys tend to do similar stupid things at the end of a shift that's been longer than planned. You tend to get to a point where you've pushed and pushed to get the job finished, the 12 hour shift has already turned into 20 hours and stupid little things just keep going wrong and it gets counter productive.

Yeah been there and done them at some point LOL
Happens to everyone!
As said though its always when you are in a hurry and need to be somewhere else!

i have to own up to once having left the shroud off and then slit it, slipped it on with the cut at the back, out of sight, and secured it with a cable tie.

I did 45 pyros on a night shift last week, forgot the shroud 3 times, so there are3 done exactly this way lol

I dont feel quite so silly now..

Are you sure it was just the once Tel

yep. only once for the slitting. a few times for having to undo the gland and fit the shroud, though.

You need a holiday!

Aye putting plug tops on without sliding the cover over first, there must have been thousands out there with a cut through at the back, eventually they did away with that method and they just went on after.

Forgot the shroud on my am2, slit it and black tape at the back! Haha
Put the olive in the wrong way round once when I was in a loft, sweated and swore for over a hour and always check now!

That's what super glue is for
I learned that from putting a rubber boot on a c.v. joint on my old car

Was making off a MI end in my AM2. Was chatting heaps with the course examiner and got a bit distracted. I ended up potting it off before putting my gland on. Didn't have enough length on the cable so it had to stay that way.

And yeah, I have forgotten shrouds before, and commando plug bodies.... lol
