Hi all,

I im in the process of rewiring a kitchen and as Im taking the old cable out etc.. I come across a 20amp double pole switch.
Looking for some answer..

1. it was on the kitchen ring ?

2. It was feeding a single socket behind were the oven once was but it was in 6mm cable from the switch to the socket ?

Thanks

get a local spark in considering it will come under LBC.

Sounds like it was feeding an oven, not good practice!

But if it was a small oven (under 3kW) that came with a 13A plug then not an issue.

More commonly you see that for washing machines, fridge/freezer, etc, as an accessible means of isolation without pulling the thing out (which is often beyond a single person). It is not a requirement in the BS wiring reg, but in Scotland it is part of the building regs.

As pc said, sounds like it was feeding a cooker, but done badly.
Not really sure what your issue is though ? Surely if the kitchen is being rewired then all that crap will be stripped out and a new kitchen ring and cooker circuit will be installed properly ?
