Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding bathroom PIR. I have a traditional lighting circuit with one switch operating 3 LEDs. I want to add a PIR that will activate a 12V LED strip but only want the PIR to be active when the main lights are off ie middle of night the low level strip will automatically come on without using main lights but do not want the PIR to activate when main lights are on! Thanks in advance

when th main lights are on, add a relay to the switched supply to the lights. the relay would be N/C but when main lights turned on, would go to N/O and interrupt supply to PIR.

Or use a pir with a photo cell so it only works when dark and not when the light is on

You need to look for something like this or your LED strip will come on during the day.
This will also bypass the need to add a relay as the PIR wont activate when the bathroom light is on.

if the original bathroom light switch has 3 terminals
com
L1
L2

you could use the L2 to power the photocell then out of photocell to light fitting

assuming
com is perm L
L1 is sw feed to light
L2 is unused

All the above would need to be checked first

in a bathroom work should be done by a registered part P electrician.

Microwave sensor rather than PIR may be better.

But in reality I wouldn’t fit one.

If I go for a Tommie --- I’m sure the light would go out on me as I don’t move around a lot when doing a doody.

Just checked the spec on those microwave ones... adjustable up to 12 minutes ! How long do you need ??
