Hi there,
client has asked me to look at her lights, got these nasty BC3 fittings and cant, wont spend the cash for the bulbs, she has asked me to replace the fittings for standard BC or ES fittings.

Where would I stand in regards to Part L if I carried out clients request.

You can actually alter these fittings to accept standard bulbs, check out the following link :-

How to fit a normal bulb in a BC3 fitting and save £10 per bulb | Architectures | Dan Lockton

or just explain the Part L to the customer, and say you will happily change the fittings for her, she is only likely to run into problems if she decides to sell the house, who will ever know all the time she is living there ??

It seems funny though that she won't pay out for a couple of bulbs, but will pay for you to install new fittings for her ? Unless you work very cheap, she is gonna have to shell out more getting you to buy and replace fittings

Part L refers to the building services compliance guide that says that 3 out of 4 fittings must be (in domestic) greater than 45lm/circuit watt and you can either have dedicated or non dedicated fittings.
So if you fit low energy lamps in the new BC / ES fittings you install then you are OK.

Spoke to her about it, current fitting has a BC22 bulb jammed into it, her problem was getting the bulbs locally, no-one had pointed out to her what type of fitting it is, told her to look on internet can get them around about £9 -£10.

she also asked if it was an easy job fitting in downlighters in the dining room ceiling, after telling her only way is to as some say is cut the ceiling up to get the wiring sorted or remove flooring upstairs, she is now rethinking. they just think yeh cut a hole and stick em in and it all works lol.
