Hi guys,

I’ve just started my training and I needed some advice. On braided SY cable if the braiding is wrapped around the brass cone of the gland but isn’t quite the perfect “cage” will it still prevent interference and noise?

Thanks guys

Yes, although I would be concerned that there might not be an effective connection to all the strands if they are not evenly spread. One should not rely on contact from one strand to another to earth the whole braid.

SY should be glanded in a SY gland. bear in mind that SY is not suitable for many applications, and the braid should not be used as a cpc. :

There are some glands for braid screened cables that use a cone though, like the Wiska Sprint and CMP.

It’s being used a screen and the gland has a coned olive then a normal olive to lock them together. With me having little experience I wasn’t sure how perfect the braid had to be on the coned olive.
