Discuss Cable behind radiator? in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

Here's a quick one I want to ask out of interest. I have seen cable running in conduit behind a radiator. Is this considered ok practice due to the heat from the rad when it is on, could this not cause issues?

Hi,
has the conduit been discoloured due to the heat etc?
Also, is the conduit running above the skirting board, as in below the radiator, or is it above the radiator ?
I personally would not do it, but I have seen similar and noted a code 4 on the periodic.
Maybe do an IR test to check the condition of the cable.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Sav

It is a where a cable and socket have been relocated so as to fit the radiator, the trunking runs just above the radiator by about 2 inches to the socket. As it is new the trunking is not discoloured. I am not yet anywhere near a spark, so have no intention of messing with it myself, and have no test equip to do an IR test. I was just wondering out of interest really, it just seemed a little dodgy in my view and could have been re-routed along the top of the wall and down to the socket quite easily as the socket had also been relocated. It's in my mums flat, so no doubt when I'm further along I will have a more educated look at it. It may well be that it's ok, just that it didn't seem the best option to me and wondered about the proximity to the rad. : ?

Well, like I said, I wasn't sure so just wanted to ask out of interest really. looks dog rough, but then it's a council property so guess they not bothered. ;)
