Discuss Can anyone tell me where to find what colour earth clamp I need is it in the regs ? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Is there a difference?

Maybe something to do with internal/external use?

If it’s not obvious in the regs or elsewhere, then I think it shouldn’t matter.

I will be swiftly corrected if I’m wrong with a slew of red crosses below

Internal / external use
have different colours

Yes actually according to good old Google different colours for certain factors like ambient temperature And moisture and all that but was just wondering if it was in the regs I haven’t even done my regs yet so have 0 clue around the book I just flip the pages and hope

Regs wise, I think it's more that you have to comply with section 522, and using the right type ends up being whatever colour they make that type.
E14 - dry, E15 dry/damp, E16 dry/damp/corrosive

So if you put e16 on everything you can ignore that reg 😂
Sure, if you can actually find one in stock anywhere!
I think I didn't make my point clearly enough - in trying to answer the original question I was trying to say that the colours are not universally consistent and are not relevant, the main thing is to get the appropriate type.

For example EC16's can be green sometimes, yet CEF sell's yellow ones.
Screwfix EC15's are blue, but Tradesparky EC16's are blue.

In the real world, I keep a few EC15's in stock and crack on!

Your starter for 10 is;

132.5.1 The design of the electrical installation shall take into account the environmental conditions to which it will be subjected.

I might havve to dig out BS951 and see if there is any difference between thrm, at a guess I'd say it'd be metallurgical.

I’ve got a box in the van of red labelled earth clamps. Just asked for clamps in CEF and that’s what they gave me. Didn’t ask where they were being fitted.
