Hello guys,
Was wondering if any of you out there have achieved an NVQ Level 3 whilst working for yourself. I am in a position where I have started my own business as a self-employed electrician, doing domestic and commercial installations, I have C&G's 2382,2377,2391,2330.
I get the impression you have to work for someone, with reference to witnessing work etc.
I was in the armed forces for 25 years, and started doing 2330 about 3 years before I came outside, and got the rest cracked around the period I left. I have got a house and kids so there was no way I could of done an apprenticeship with the money they pay you for that.
On reading some of the threads on here, I get the impression that the majority of guys who have served an apprenticeship take a dim view on those that haven't, not even regarding them as electricians in one poll.
I'd like to do the NVQ Level 3 to obviously increase my qualifications but also my standing with regards to apprenticeship served sparks......if that makes sense.

To be honest mate it makes no sense to me! u have been in the forces, had the balls to start your own buisness, are suitably qualified (More than some !) why u want a NVQ3 and are bothered about what other sparks think of you is beyond me ! I certainly dont ....have u seen some of the cowboys out there? Get on with what your doing and good luck:D

cheers zedess, I just thought that if this business doesn't work out as I hope( doing well at the moment though!), I have the opportunity to gain a NVQ 3, thus eligible for JIB etc which would make me more attractive to employers, like a plan B.

You need someone to sign of the work you are submitting that you have doing for the NVQ 3.

Another Ex-Squaddie, looking to go into the trade er?.. Welcome mate, What the hell is the MOD doing to help guys now adays? Couldn't they help you out? I'm sick of the way that Blokes who have served their Country are just cast aside, when they leave the Forces. The MOD, as part of your resettlement should be getting Blokes proper training. After all it makes sense. One of the biggest causes of Ex-Squaddies turning to drink and drugs is because of the lack of help available when He/She leaves; the resettlement grants and help are so pathetic.
Soldiers get cast into the street, Terrorists become Politicians...

Agree with milwall Ken, these guys joined the forces to do there bit for our country and learn a trade, I would of thought it was the forces responsibility to give them a career when they left.
