Circuit for a gas solinoid valve

How all,

Doing a commercial kitchen with fans above the gas cookers , there is a solinoid gas value that opens the gas when the fans kick in, does this have to be wired on a dedicated circuit , there is a socket right next to it . Board is quite far away .

Wouldn't how this is wired all depend on the results of a risk assessment?

not quite sure, its my sparky m8, basically its a few gas burners and a large canopy with a inline fan in it. for a commercial kitchen

By the sounds of it you will be needing a gas interlock system.

Can’t supply that off a local socket. Any safety systems including solenoids for gas shut off valves need to be controlled by specific control measure for that system. Also you would probably need to incorporate Fail safes etc.

I think the OP is asking whether a gas interlock panel and system can be supplied from (e.g.) a fused spur from a socket-outlet circuit, or whether a dedicated radial needs to be run from the DB. I would defer to the specifier of the system as they will be responsible for demonstrating compliance with BS6173 etc. FWIW the load is trivial, a fraction of an amp, other than for the fans themselves.

I have seen them wired both ways, personally I would use a dedicated circuit. The supply isn't a safety system as such, if it were it would have some kind of battery back up and be wired using fire retardant cable. Loss of the mains supply would merely default the gas solenoid to close, in a safe position.

thanks guys, soilnoid and gas valvue etc being supplied by the plumber, theres a dual socket right by it and getting back to the DB is a nightmare

Is this being controlled by an interlock system to prevent a gas supply if the extraction is off or if the extraction system fails.
