Hi all, I recently read a discussion in a different forum which was done about 2009 regarding the big 3 CPS I.e Nic, Napit and stroma.
Some were been praised to high heaven, while others were shredded to pieces to burning hell.
*I am wondering how and where this bodies are rated now after 10yrs down the road?
*Who do you use or who will you choose or recommend to a newcomer among all the existing CPS and why?
 
I use NICEIC as its got the greater brand recognition. It shouldnt matter at they end of the day as they all allow you to self notify work under part p.
Downside they are quite easy to join and give a veneer of respectability to cowboys. On the flip side the schemes have many more legit good members than bad.
Its personal preference i guess.
 
It's a bit like politics, you will get different views. I was with the NICEIC and went to stroma and I wasn't impressed with the assessor or the support from Stroma as they were so disorganised, so I'm back with the NICEIC who I've never had any issues with. Soon some will come along who will say stroma is great and the NICEIC isn't, so you will have to ultimately decide for yourself.

I'm with NIC and have been for 30 odd years. It used to mean a great deal and was quite difficult to gain entry....unlike today.....you pays your money, you takes yer chance.
Today's set up should have been planned and implemented to a much greater standard but when Part P came in it just became a money making...….what's the word.....oh, scam....that's it.

By the way....that's probably the reason behind me joining the forum all those years back....think I've made my views known on countless occasions, over the years. Tend to have grown a bit sick of it....and the downward spiral of the industry.

You are right, it's money minting machine, nic have over 30k member with an average of £500 per member a year, do the maths just to keep register and read regs for you.
Not exceptional with other schemes.
However, there requirement are quite stiff on paper.

Corrected that for you me dear. I avoided CPS scheme for years as I like many electrical workers overnight were no longer legally electricians unless we paid the protection money required by the junta. Not that any of it made a jot of difference to dangerous work being carried out. Now we have a vibrant multicultural mix among us we find that they contribute marvellously to the louche and varied practices along with our indigent Del boys and builder wiring techniques, that we would eschew being trained properly. The schemes are just one more arrow into the heart of tradesmen who do take their job seriously and see clearly this as stated previously a gravy train for people who have nothing to do with working at the coal face so to speak.

Whilst I appreciate the NICEIC are liked by most of you guys, I 100% would recommend the ECA. My main reasons are 1) they own NICEIC so you are not or never will be disadvantaged by not being NIC, you still get all the same discounts on NIC training etc. 2) you get a web portal where all the main certificates are editable and printable.
3) you can pay I think it’s £80-95 per year and get free access to all British Standards off your computer or smart phone (that alone saves hundreds). 4) Free excellent help desks for electrical/ leagal/ HR / fire systems etc.
5) they have specialist groups so if you are approved for fire you also become a Fire and Security Association member to.
6) a on line ERAMs portal 7) Contracts help.

Forgive me if I’m not so educated on part P as a company we do not do any domestic work so not a thing for me.
How ever if you have a look at the download pdf it highlights all the ECA benefits one of these is about PartP discounts. Also as. ECA member you get free JIB membership, discounted ECS Cards etc.

We're ECA members and notify through Elecsa. I believe ECA acquired Elecsa a few years ago. One of the main reasons we stay with them are the competitive private healthcare premiums. The policy also ignores pre existing conditions which has been helpful!

Now there is some sort of tie up between ECA,Elecsa,Nic under the Certsure umbrella, but I'm not sure who bought out who, or if it was a merger.
 
I believe the ECA missed the boat when applications were being sought for Part P approved schemes. They essentially applied too late.
