Here in France i am about to get my Stoves Richmond 1100E cooker reconnected. My electrician says that it would be best to connect it using three phase (i have a 20 amp supply on each phase). EDF also suggested this on a visit. The cooker has the standard connector with 3 phase, 3 neutral & 1 earth connectors. The phase & neutral connectors are each bridged using a shorting link.
To be sure, I contacted Stoves to ask if it would be OK to connect the cooker to a three phase supply but they said no it wasn't but couldn't offer an explanation as to why not - the engineer just says 'no'!
If the shorting link was removed from the phase terminals & the three phase wires connected to the three terminals then this would work surely?
Any advice would be most welcome.
Cheers,
Mick.

I would be very careful as unless there's some sort of transformer inside I would say your cookers switchgear, elements etc are all 240v.

I would take the back off and check what voltage the internal components are rated at.

It looks to me they've used phase&neutral to give 240v.

You could try a dead test on the oven itself by disconnecting all incoming cables and testing between the three phase terminals ON THE OVEN ITSELF,not the LIVE THREE PHASE CABLE using ohms on your meter to see if there's a balance on the fans.

Just looked at the technical spec. 230V single phase at 45A for the UK version. But it will run off your 3 phase supply with the links removed from the plug as French supply will be 380/440V 3 phase to your house. Limited by your 20A load capping (you can go over it, but you’ll pay through the nose).
Could do with a photo of the connections in the back to confirm things.

here's the connection info from the manual

So it must have an internal transformer?very swish!!!
Yeah, connect L1/2/3 from your three phase(try and keep phase rotation correct) then I'd assume (as I know little about French supply) there's only 1 neutral to connect,so leave neutral links only in,then earth.

If your phase rotations wrong you may find the fans spin the wrong way etc, although there maybe some sort of internal protection for this?

Which planet are you on? It's quite a common connection for larger cookers.

Mickpjack, this should do what you want. There may be 3 neutrals going to the plug they need to be shorted there. Connected this way you won’t go over your 20A max load.

Tony,
Many thanlks. This is what i was assuming to be the correct method. Stoves sell these cookers in France & i can't believe that the internals are any different.
Cheers,
Mick.
