Crimp and heat-shrink, or solder and heat-shrink?

Do I need to take any extra precautions if I'm connecting a new colour cable to an old colour cable (apart from the sticker on the CU)?

if soldering, say, 1.5mm or 2.5mm, i wrap a bit of stripped alarm cable round the 2 ends, then solder and heat shrink. crimps are far quicker especially when i've left the iron or solder at home.

Maintenance Free JB.

I am not a fan of solder, where there are temperature changes the joints invariably break down over time.

Crimp is always a good choice but call me lazy, I prefer lever or push fit connectors. When used with stranded conductors if there is any settlement in the cores the spring action keeps the pressure on. Not that they have been around for long enough to have passed the trials of time, but in theory ...

Of course to be MF the cables need to be clamped too, so best get a MF certified JB to cover yourself.
