When carrying out a EICR the lighting circuit will show a dead short if you have forgotten to disconnect a lamp somewhere. Is there anyway of getting a true reading without removing all of the lamps?

Unless you are Mr Bean. Think he shot his lamps with an air pistol instead of turning them off. That would do it.
(Guitarist in no way condones the use of air pistols as a way of turning off lamps)

a compromise would be to test L-N, L-E, N-E with switches off, then short L/N and test to E with switches on.

You could do both live conductors to earth, but of course this would not give a L-N IR. BTW with downlights you would also have to remove the transformers....
