I'm looking for a floodlight (preferably 50w), that can be dimmable with a standard led dimmer switch (probably a varilight v-pro).

All I can find are ones that are dimmable with a remote control, or a triac dimmer switch. I'm not too sure what a triac dimmer is. Could I just use a normal led dimmer instead?

A Triac is the semiconductor device, typically in leading edge dimmers, that switches power on at the required point in the ac cycle.
Varlight V-Com dimmers are Triac dimmers
Varlilight V-Pro dimmers use an IGBT insulated gate bipolar transistor as the switch, which can do leading edge and trailing edge dimming.
I would think that a floodlight that claims to be Triac compatible would work with a V-Pro, but if not the V-Com is the 'right' type of dimmer!
