evening all
not got much work on the run up till christmas so this week been helping a mate joiner put steels and joists in a loft conversion. anyway the electrician turned up today who works for the firm change fuseboard and throw some cables up to the attic and started talking. asked who i was with elecsa and he said he wasn't with any part p body as because all his work is extensions/loft conversions, when building regs have been paid for it covers the electrics as well so he just does certs give them to the bi bloke happy days. hes fully qualified as i've bumped into few years ago on big new builds. is this right as this year alot of my jobs have involved building control on some builds and makes me wonder why pay my annual fee

Yes thats perfectly feasible if the the fee has been paid , it's up to bc if they accept your certificates or not.
Different councils have different approaches and will accept certificates from non scheme members.

Well it was true for me. I contacted building control before I wired my own extension. They asked to see copies of my quals and I gave them the EIC when the job was finished. After that they accepted my EIC's on work already under building control without question. The only domestic I get involved with now on the side is anything under building control. No fees from BC or some part P scam scheme

it's so true. if the work ( extension etc.) requires planning permission, then part of the BC's duty is to inspect the work, or accept the installers certs, and then to sign off the job. also, some LABCs accept your certs direct from you for all notifiable work. the scams don't tell you this.

Its interesting this, as I've seen quite a lot of really shoddy work recently, that was clearly done as part of an extension. Makes you wonder if there is any "control" at all.

I do wonder if there are any "plants" from Elecsa, Napit or NICEIC on this forum??
