Hey all!

I've been asked by a building contractor to install a fire alarm system in a small block of 3 flats. I've installed fire alarm circuits in the past for previous employers but i was never involved in the design or commissioning of them.

The contractor is putting pressure on me to do it as no doubt i will be far cheaper than a specialist firm.

I could probably do it. Its always been simple to wire when ive done it in the past.

Ive got no qualifications or insurance so because of this I don't want to do it! Am i being silly?

What jargon ect can i throw back at him when he questions my decision?

Any help would be bril!

Cheers

Rhys

First thing you will need is a copy of the local BC`s survey and risk assessment

pretty sure building control aren't involved. I would like to pass it on sharp ish. Its the type of job that needs to be done this week.

I basically dont want anything to do with it. Would there not be any issues with design being approved or anything of that nature?

I want to say sorry bob the builder but id rather not carry out the installation because.............

Agree with the last poster, I have installed many but to the spec laid down and to site plan as to actual siting if components, you need this or the certification to do it yourself, that said even then the plan can be wrong I had to move 24 detectors as they had been sited right outside a shower room, something a questioned at the time, so it aint straight forward
