hi i have a 12v non battery 1966 lambretta, i want to see if i can wire air horns onto my scooter...the kit comes with a compressor and a relay but when i look at videos on fitting them to cars it says connect to battery, so can these be connected to my 12v non battery lambretta ?

the lamretta must have some sort of horn by law, so use this feed to energise your air horn relay.

Come on clever cogs wire this up then........ ;o)))))

you hum it, i'll play it. anyway why are you not at that polski deli with the eoro plugs bodged into BS1363 sockets ( see relevant thread).

and who's clever idea was to put U ,I, and O adjacent on the keybiard?

They can definitely be connected, but they may not work.

I suspect the reason for the relay is because the compressor will draw quite a high current when running, hence the direct connection (most likely with quite large - relatively - cables) to the battery.

If the current required by the compressor is too large, the magneto that provides power to the rest of the bike may simply not be powerful enough to handle it.

No It won't work, as above the air compressor draws a large currect way more than the engine magneto can provide.

I had a 1965 Lambretta (Pacemaker 175) with battery with airhorns in 1968.

The standard horn works off the magneto when there is no battery.

why not install something like a 7Ah rechargeable alarm battery under the seat space. this will last quite a while and recharge at home when required.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there isn't a kit you could buy to add a battery. You couldn't connect one directly as the output from the magneto is likely to be too rough to safely charge a battery, but with the right kit it could be easily cleaned up.

Depending on the load of the compressor, a relatively small sealed lead acid battery may suffice.
