Hi All

I'm in the process of getting quotes to get an EV Charger installed, and hopefully at the same time power to 14 residents garages. As it stands, the expectation is the majority of use in the garages will simply be for lights as they are too small for modern cars. There will undoubtedly be exception to this but the intention is to limit each garage with a 16a RCD (and also a small kwh meter for usage measurements).

Our building has a 3 phase feed and we appear to have a spare 60A DO. If i were to get a meter installed for this circuit, would you consider this enough capacity for a 7kwh charger as well as the garage supplies? In the future we will no doubt need to upgrade the charger given demand is likely to go up at which point I imagined getting a 3 phase system installed and therefore free up more capacity to the garages which I have a suspicion may start to become more useful as small offices, gyms etc if we allow it in the leases.

I am of course not unteraking this work myself but just want to get some additional opinions from you fine folks

Cheers

Potentially an adequate supply but who is paying for all this?
Dno will charge to make the other phase available, if at all possible. I have seen 3 phase heads with only 2 phases connected. Dno themselves surprised 3rd phase wasnt connected.
If the tenants/owners are being coerced to get power in the garages to enable an ev charger for one person it might cause issues regards costs etc.
Before getting a charger fitted i would encourage you to speak to the local dno as they may have something to say.
Will add that cost of getting a 3 phase service installed if required is not cheap.
I recently agreed plans for something similar in Bath and DNO are charging 3.8k to install a new service and make good tarmac...
Then you have the general install costs on top.
This was for just one garage.

Thanks for your reply John. Surprise, surprise I'm the resident with the future elec car :)

AFAIK all three phases are available and in use. And we already have a fuse labelled spare. So I was assuming we just needed the supplier to install a meter on that?
