Hi all,
Sorry that I've been absent lately but we've been busy sorting things out for our new arrival in October.
Anyway, as some of you will be aware, I sometimes help out with a local youth club - on a 'as and when I can basis.' Now, because I'm not in 'regular' contact with the kids there, I haven't had to be vetted by the peelers. However, as I want to help out on a more regular basis I must now be vetted by said police.
Now the problem... As regular readers will know, I haven't always been a model citizen. Well to put it short I've been nicked no fewer than five times.
For offences ranging from criminal damage to resisting arrest and assault on police to the last one which was for using foul and abusive language at football in 2004/5. I haven't ever done any bird, as a result of these offences - just been fined.
Now I've trolled though the Government websites looking for a definative list but there isn't one. A mate of mine, who is a peeler reckons that its only the 'assault on police' that could go against me. I've always been upfront and honest with the leader of the youth club, and indeed he ain't always been an angel himself. So if anyone has a wife/girlfriend/mother/father etc etc who work within the criminal justice system, and could give me a definative answer or advice it would be much appreciated.
Cheers boys.

If its a CRB check you need, I can't see what your history is showing will be held against you. Remember its "children" issues they are looking for!

Basically if working with children you will be subject to an enhanced check which is the information on the Police national computer which will detail your arrests and and subsequent court appearences, from what you have said I cant see that being an issue, we are talking 6 or 7 years since your last fine which is a long time in the criminal justice world. You will also be checked against the local Police system which records any encounter you have with your local Police - arguments with neighbours, family et.. if the Police attended and had to take some action. As mentioned, it is biased towards offences such as violence or dishonesty if working with children or vulnerable persons.

I think you would be a perfect role model for these kids mate to be honest. You can speak from experience as to why someone shouldnt take that path you did. You've wised up and your in a trade. If my boy was trouble id send him to you LoL. But your record doesnt sound that bad in my eyes. Im pretty bad when im at the footy and with criminal damage???.. LoL God knows the amount of times ive wanted to break someone elses stuff coz they've deciced they dont want to pay me lol or smack an officer in the nuts for taking away 3 points lol

But in all honesty mate. Good work with helping out the youth. Like us when we were that age we need a bit of guidence. Hell i might even help out.

My Stepfather is an accountant and knows the justice system pretty well and his best mates a lawyer so ill have a little look around and get back to ya asap.. Hopefully I can shed some light on your concern.

till then, stay cool u hooligan. LOL

This is not to be taken as advice or as being correct, this comes from a mate who processes CRB checks for a local childrens charity.

An work with children will require an Enhanced CRB check, this means that the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 is over-ruled, that is, it does not apply and no convictions are 'spent'. ALL convictions and any police intelligence will form the CRB, so ALL convictions will be shown.
No-No's are:
any convictions for a sexual offence, i.e. rape, indecent assault etc.
any conviction whatsoever involving children (obviously!)

Might-be's are:
any convictions of violence against the person, i.e. assault etc.

Might-be's and lower, i.e. 'criminal' offenses such as theft, are dependant on the role the person is being checked for, the organisation they will be working for and the results from a personal interview.

My mate says you would be ok working for his organisation, but others may take a different view. Incidentally, the employer does not see the CRB, they just get a reference number. The person who 'orders' the CRB, in this case my mate, will see it but cannot tell anyone what it contains. What he does is to tell the person who 'asked' for the CRB to be carried out is if that person is suitable for the role it is being requested for.

HTH

Steve.

CRBs are becoming required, requested more often My wife works in a charity for adults with learnign difficulties and as far as I gather ANY offence is a NONO there
My work takes me into banks ect No schools as yet but I have done "Disclosure scotland" and have in the past done the MOD official thinggy ( grannies maiden name ,ect ect ) IMO im glad Im not in your shoes ken as your wayward past may just bite your bum its definitly something some "younger" guys take note of now as even going to USA OZ N.Z. might be limited by a seemingly "Nothing" crime Police Assault in black n white like the report would give it could mean anything from a light slap on the copper to Kicking him in the nutz so hard he spews
I wish you luck as I dont know you personaly and only through your wise words here you seem to have screwed the nut taken responsible actions and realised you were a bit of a numpty when younger its a Pity CRB is a report n not an interview as well regarding how you are NOW not how you were when you were a single silly boy

The thing is mate, I ain't a hooligan - I'm a Rugby boy. I haven't held a season ticket at Millwall since '96. I got nicked for abusing the Peelers, who were giving a bloke that they were dragging out a bit of a hiding. Everyone was slagging them off, calling them scum etc. However as I had the loudest and most abusive voice they came back and nicked me as well!!!

Ken, you should volunteer your time to one of these groups in N.Ireland, a criminal record is the bare minimum requirement for acceptance!
