Discuss interview question-no rcd in a bathroom in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

Had a job interview today where the guy asked me if you went into an empty property to do an inspection and found out the bathroom circuits were not protected by an RCD, what code would it warrant...I answered a code 4 as although it did not comply with BS7671, it did comply with the regulations when it was installed, I also said that I would of recommended that an RCD should be installed to comply with regulations.

Was I right, or have I ballsed up that interview completely?

It would be code 4 if there was adequate main bonding and supplementary bonding in the bathroom

It would be code 2 if the above was not adequate

I would take the same approach as Des. In fact, if there was neither supplementary bonding nor RCD protection on every circuit I may opt for Code 1.

The important thing to remember is that it is the opinion of the Inspector. There are no hard and fast rules because every situation is different.

I should just add that personally I do not believe that whether a condition was ever compliant with the Regulations is pertinent to an assessment of the safety of the installation as judged against current Standards. (Controversial I know!)
