Hello all, my first post so please be gentle, I have been in the Security Industry for 6 yrs , 5 of those as a Mobile Patrol Officer so have dealt with alarm systems and how to use them for certain purposes, I have recently been made redundant and would love to be able to do a course which would qualify me to go for a job as a Intruder Alarm Service Engineer or similar, any help and information is very much appreciated.

Cheers.

I did a so you want to know about intruder alarms plus how to install a burglar alarm in the alarm section but think you need to ask for access

I asked for access but got this response:

To gain access to the alarm forum you will need to have had 20 posts or more.

Also there are no 'real' qualifications needed to become a alarm installer, but a lot of manufacturers hold open days and training events that give you training certificates, that's your best bet to gain an insight on the different manufactures and systems

Well the Schemies would disagree with you there as funny enough they will sell you a Intruder alarm installation and service course

All I want to know is what qualifications do you need to become an Intruder Alarm Engineer Service/Installer ?

I have seen ADT advertise for a fitter with CITY & GUILDS NVQ LEVEL 2 ENGINEERING PRODUCTION & ASSEMBLY AS A MINIMUM REQUIREMENT.

Sparkalarm here is the deal If you are a Schemie or an alarm company then you need to create a qualification so that people will be forced to get as you will not recognised now you may think what a lot of tosh so then transpose this on to Part P and hey presto you have the Schemies telling you you need to be registered and qualified for a system that no one bothers a ---- about ie no Notification police kicking doors down demanding that new 17th edition safety CU should be ripped out cos nobody told them or a local planning doing the same hell no just get an EICR to cover pal and everything is kushdie.

Just to highlight I got into alarm 30 years ago where like TVs when they came out were rented so you had to have a maintenance contract but modern electronics and microchips plus quality control has virtually done away with this for the domestic user. Now like the Schemies its all smoke and mirrors as you want you to be dependant on their say so and the current parlamentry enquiry stated that they had a conflict of interests

HUH? you really lost me on that statement sorry mate, also sorry for my ignorance but what is a 'schemie'?

I work for an alarm company and only trying to give someone some advice on where they might gain some info or training to get into the trade?

Their are branches around England called skills for security that can train you to be a fully qualified alarm engineer. I attended a branch in Birmingham

Hi,

Alarm wiring is very simple, if you can come to london i can train you in one day. You can then apply to nsi once you have experience.

NSI’s Systems Silver scheme is designed for smaller or new companies and can be a stepping-stone for those wishing to progress to NACOSS Gold.
Companies choosing to enrol in the Silver scheme will need to meet the required high level of technical competence but do not need to meet the requirements of ISO 9001.

You make it sound so easy with your one day training course or are you using wireless equipment

Thought ISO 9001 had died the death I think there must only be the NSI still using it as a requirement

No wired system, easy all wires go to central unit, then wire up sensor, contacts, pir, dialer and configure test and your done. Most companies install a intruder within a day.

ISO 9001 is still around rare but around.
