Inverter Cooling

My SMA 4000TL inverter is fitted in my bungalow loft space and whilst I haven't as yet had any problems I am aware that the unit is getting hot and doing its best via its built in fan/s to cool itself.

I am considering using a in line 4" extractor fan akin Manrose bathroom type with ducting to direct outside "cooler" air to the under side of the Inverter. The fan on/off function coming from a standard room stat wired in reverse ie high temp closed contact.

Any thoughts - anybody carried out similar mod.

better to fit extra tile / ridge vents above it IMO - extra low level vent to outside air would also be good, as would the ducting to below the inverter, but I'd prefer to rely on natural convection to suck the cold air through myself.

Before the panels were fitted, the loft was unbearable and I was concerned that the heat would effect the inverter, so I cut a 250mm hole on the end wall and fitted this 8" extractor connected to a thermostat. It shift nearly 1000 cubic metres of air an hour and the loft never gets warm nowView attachment 20056.
