Hi people,

I'm sure there is one 'simple answer' to this but between those on site we now have a multitude of opinions.... So, thouight I'd ask people with a bit more experience what the best way of doing this is. The supply company has changed it's mind on the position for the meter for a few reasons which has meant we're having to change our plan.

(See diagram)

What's the best way of routing the meter tails. The consumer unit sits on the inside wall, around the corner from the proposed site of the meter. The wall construction is plasterboard, 100mm celotex insulation, ply board, then over-clad in timber (barn conversion...). The meter sits a little lower than the CU - i.e. the cables needs to go around and down.

So how do we comply with regs, stay safe and make it neat.

p.s. the internal area here is all out of site as it's in a thin utility room and has doors across it to make a storage cupboard. So we can be less concerned with the look so to speak.

Thanks in advance guru-sparky's!

agree^^^^

The bit that’s confusing me is the change of mind by the DNO. If they agreed a position and you have designed your installation to suit they should be made to stick to the agreement.

Well, in fairness, I can't lay all the change on the DNO. It was a knock-on from other changes between planning, the historic buildings inspector and the conservation inspector. Sadly, one little concern raised another, then another and finally, wham - the new plan means moving the meter box (among other things).

Oh well... I guess it's the problem with having a listed historic building inhabited by a protected species.

Thanks for your thoughts though peeps. It's put an end to the endless list of stupid suggestions on-site.

and that's what you're stuck with, until alan sugar's apprentices invent a wi-fi CU.

Agree above or if you want to run it somewhere hidden must be in a steel pipe. Someone (someone with alot of experience!) mentioned scaffold once as a useful protector.

For Christ’s sake don’t stand between the transmitter and receiver, you’ll either be cut in half or fried from the inside out!

This will make the installation a challenge as you will have to take Fauna into consideration on all of the installation.
