I thought I should say hello, as I've just received the "Inactive Account?" email.
I'm an ex-electrician, forced to give up around 2006 due to various life & health problems, but like to keep my hand in as much as possible, if I can. I also pursue a couple of hobbies which involve electrics. One of which is restoring vintage stationary engines, including several old generating sets dating from around WW2. This also involves repairing ancient ignition systems, where an electrical background is also helpful.
Coming clean, the main reason I joined up here was because I recently got involved with a friend's boat project. He's bought a Scandinavian ex-military boat & wishes to convert it to a live-aboard/diving vessel. He wants to put in an auxiliary electric drive system using a 3 phase motor & generator. But there is also an existing 3 phase system, using a marine isolation transformer. This also converts power into a 230v 3 phase system (powering normal euro type 230v sockets but without a neutral) & I have a few questions about this system.
I won't go any further into details here, as it's not the place. But if anyone can point me in the right direction where I can post up my questions, or if anyone has any experience with this European 230v 3 phase system, with its lack of neutrals, then feel free to get in touch.
In the meantime I will have a good look round, when I get the time.
Cheers.
