I need some guidance on the regs as they might apply to an installation running off a small (4.4kw) petrol generator in the back of a vehicle.

The customer's idea is to turn a small truck into a coffee vendor.

My plan so far is to simply provide a hook up from the generator via an outdoor BS 60309-2 connection straight into a garage unit with a 30ma RCD as the main switch, supplying two circuits, i.e one coffee machine and one water pump.

The issue I've come up against is earthing - the generator is intended to be contained inside the vehicle. That's a floating earth - what do I need to do to make it comply?

some tv catering companies use a metal plate connected to the earthing which is simply laid on the floor and a wheel from the vehicle driven onto it to force it into contact with the ground.this is to get around the problem of driving a rod in,don't forget to bond the vehicles chassis as well.

No need for anything like that with a floating earth, not unless you convert the floating earth to a chassis N-E connection. More trouble than it's worth to be honest!!
