Wow...jeez...how much?

Just been looking into what's involved with becoming Part P registered and it looks like if costs £400+ per year. Is this right? I can see why there might be a hefty initial charge when you are assessed but why does it cost so much for an annual renewal?

Seems crazy you need to be reassessed every year. It's not like you're going to suddenly forget what you're doing- A bit like being charged £400 to resit your driving test each year- nuts!!:(

Think of it as an MOT, every year they check your paperwork, insurances and go to look at a sample of work, making sure you keep up the standards

Yep, it certainly stings. Then there's the £3 you have to pay to log each notifiable job with the local building authorities (With the NIC EIC at least). It doesn't sound like much, but it soon adds up!

Quoted For Truth

Having to pay $400 a year to stay Part P registered is goverment exstorsion in my book
I wouldn't pay the £400 to put in their pockets, just me,this argument will go on for a long time,i just want to get back into industrial/commercial.As albi said and i will always say,it's a stealth tax.

yep thats were im aiming for when i get qualified as ive already got IND/COM experience

I dont see what all the fuss is about. It costs about £5 per job over the year, stick it on your bill and no one will ever know......and its 100% tax deductable as a professional fee, so i actually make money;) oh and the notification fees are also tax deductable under the same banner.

Part p wont go away, the public are aware, it will never be free, so its a case of put up and shut up i think.

Put a charge on each job for the paperwork and notification?
