When PAT testing is it necessary to carry out insulation resistance or load/leakage on a Class II (Dummy earth pin) transformer PSU type plugtop? (e.g. phone charger, monitor PSU) Or is just a visual inspection needed?
might that not fry the device, though?Yes, it is a fundamental safety aspect of the transformer / electronic power supply that it provides adequate insulation between the 230V input and the ELV / Class III device it powers. Therefore an insulation or leakage test to the ELV output is important. Some non-compliant / fake / firecracker phone chargers and their like have deficient insulation that is a smoke paper away from causing a serious shock or electrocution when someone touches the attached phone.
