Hey Guys,
I'm part P with elecsa just the started. A family freind has a few properties that he rents and needs a pir on them. I know i'm not paying for this bit yet with elecsa but if i am confident enough in what i am doing can i do it and issue a 7671 PIR sheet to him?
Thanks

as far as i understand the rules, at this moment in time you can issue a PIR report (make sure it's a generic one from the 'net, not one with a logo from elecsa etc. as this would be seen as you using their name when you are not paying and not entitled to.) you only have to be 'competent' at this time.... please bear in mind that your signature on that paperwork makes you responsible for the person in that property if they were to be electricuted and it will be you in court facing charges, so you really need to know what you are doing if you don't want sleepless nights. This could all change soon as the new inspection report form is being designed as i type this, also plans are afoot to make inspecting properties the domain of 2391 holders only to try and weed out those who stand outside the property for two minutes then issue a certificate!!! whether this will ever happen remains to be seen.

Thanks miner i thought that was the deal. Done plenty of PIR's for old firms so confident in what i'm looking for and i dont use a pair of dice for my readings!

fair enough. my dice kept wearing out on the pavement outside so i just flip a coin now pass or fail!!!!!!

I was going to say..........dice give better, more accurate results than some I've seen.

I'll see if I can dig out a "generic" PIR that was handed to us a while back - initially as part of an FRA - but the readings beggared belief - as did some of the selections describing the installation.

Can anyone tell me, for example, how someone arrives at an insulation reading of 3.2 ohms, yes, OHMS!!! and calls the installation safe? The reading, when re-taken (on the spot!!!!) actually showed insulation resistance in excess of 10M Ohms.

TT system and not an earth rod in sight (or out of sight?) There was a clear TN-C-S installation in place however.

Other gems included Ze, apparently, of 35M Ohms, Prospective fault current of 30 mA! (The K had been crossed out and an "m" written in!!!), means of earthing "unknown, but present somewhere", Main Switch or Circuit Breaker - BS Type - "Yes"!!!!!

Scary stuff.

On the bright side, at least it was on a generic form.

Sorry, I meant to say - it was an installation Cert, not a PIR.
