If a board has an RCD as the main switch and no main earth connected would this cause an RCD to trip whenever something is plugged in?

Andy the answer to that is No, but why is the earth not connected and how come the installation is being used without a Main Earth ?

Its OK its not being used (much). I powered up a ring main, plugged in a phone and it kept tripping after a minute. Once I connect up the whole installation (including earth rod) and power it up I`m obviously going to have tripping???

i thought an rcd works on an imbalance of current between the L + N ?

yeah i know its dangerous i left it all isolated, its a tt system thats getting connected to an earth rod tomorrow. i think i might have not connected the 2 neutral bars up correctly i was in a rush when i left. i`ll just have to check then.
