Hi,

Have had problems with Freesat reception recently so called out an engineer.

First response was that it was nothing to do with the trees outside. The engineer connected up his meter and pronounced that the LNB was faulty (only picking up one polarity of signal) - so that was changed. £160 later (incl. VAT/time etc.) the problem is still the same on the main TV, though apparently another linked TV was OK. The problem with the main set was apparently either down to a faulty HUMAX receiver or outdated software.

All this while I was at work and the wife was holding the fort.

On returning home, I found that as before neither TV was picking up any channels (postcode not verified etc.). Next morning I got the trees cut outside and both boxes then picked up all channels. I'm therefore suspecting that the problem never was the LNB.

My question is, can you really tell if an LNB is faulty as diagnosed above (i.e. without substituting it and seeing if the problem is fixed), or have we been taken for a bit of a ride?
